An Internet user sent us the testimony available below after having noticed charges (purchases by credit card) under the title HPY*fileflip.io Location: LONDON. Amount: €47,90.
Scam or legitimate expense?
He answered the following two questions then detailed his problem for us to help other Internet users in the same situation as him:
Have you noticed the direct debit one or more times (single purchase or regular debits)? : Recurrent
Is this direct debit following an online purchase or a subscription on a website? : I don't know
Unexplained expenditure of 47,90 euros over several months.
I think it follows a process that I had to do online to modify a video but I don't remember that it was paid. I pay attention to what I spend, not earning a lot of money (pension). I would like to know the procedure to cancel these transactions (is it possible to get a refund, if so how?)
If you also notice a HPY*fileflip.io LONDON – €47,90 charge, you can read our advice below and/or leave a comment.
Put an end to internet scams: how to avoid card fraud and control your internet purchases?
💡 First point, we recommend that you read this article in relation to your problem: These direct debits that start with “Hpy*”: watch out for hidden subscriptions. The majority of banking establishments today offer “single-use virtual cards”. Although it sounds a bit technical, it's actually a simple and reliable approach to preventing inconveniences when shopping online. Do not hesitate to inquire with your bank. Another piece of advice (probably the most important!), always take the time to consult the legal notices, usually located at the bottom of the site page. These notices provide you with details such as the nationality and contact details of the company behind the site where you are thinking of purchasing, as well as a person to contact (email address or telephone number). To top it all off, consider searching the site name on search engines to read feedback from other users. 💡
Thank you very much for this article; it has informed me well, and served as a reference for me to request the blocking of my direct debits, with reimbursement of the previous ones, from my bank.
Indeed, after a payment of €0,50 on 7/11/23, I was charged €47,90 per month, from 8/11/23 to today (8/05/24.)
This was likely a result of my using a digital file converter, which the site in question claimed to make available to users for a few cents per conversation.
(And maybe a yearly subscription fee, but nothing close to what I was charged, or I would have moved on.)
In any case, if there is any mention, hidden in the meanders of their clauses, which would commit users to paying nearly €50 per month, it is more than ambiguous.
Hello,
The same thing happened to me as you, I converted a file very recently on an online site, on which I paid 0,5€ on principle, and indeed a few days later I see a charge of 47,90 with the same title as you describe.
Do you know the name of the site in question? I can't seem to find it.
Were you able to cancel this subscription and get a refund?
Thank you for your reply.
William

Hello,
I have the same problem. I have been paying this amount for 12 months already and I just noticed it now. I think it was while converting a pdf doc to word in Dec 2023. How to stop it? Thanks for your advice!
Hello, same problem, but I don't remember the site used.. does anyone remember?
Good evening, I would like you to stop the withdrawals from my account and kindly reimburse me because I must have made a mistake on my computer. I am an elderly married woman who is sick and I have a small pension. Can you please kindly stop all this, thank you. Kind regards, Mrs. Hennoque
